Jennifer Almeida
Jennifer is a printmaker, bookbinder, and stained glass artist. She received a BFA from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2006 and has been working in New England since then. Her work includes a wide range of 2-D and 3-D pieces which she pursues exhibiting annually. In addition to her own artwork Jennifer works educating children in after school programs in RI and is the studio manager for a local artist.
Rachel B. Bell
Rachel B. Bell is a native of Rhode Island. While a student at Lincoln School in Providence, she discovered photography. She continued her artistic studies at Smith College in Northampton, MA. In addition to photography, she studied offset printmaking.
Since graduating from Smith College in 2004, Rachel has worked as a website and graphic designer. She is also a director for SBR (Service By Referral) Network.
Jamie Derr
Jamie Derr, a native to Bristol, Rhode Island, is a professional singer/songwriter turned visual artist who predominately paints portraiture and nautical scenes using oil, acrylics and watercolor paints. Growing up in her parents’ bakery near the Bristol harbor serves as an inspiration for her to capture the beauty of the ocean on canvas. Jamie is also very intrigued by the human face and gained tactile experience working as a freelance make-up artist for numerous years including film and runway.
After completing a BA from Wellesley College in 2012, she continues to enhance her natural ability by taking both private lessons and attending workshops. Jamie recently exhibited her work at Wellesley College, Attleboro Arts Museum, Hope Gallery in Bristol R.I, Spring Bull Gallery on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, R.I, the juried exhibit FACES at Post Office Gallery in Provincetown, MA and is currently working on a piece for the ANGELS benefit and exhibit at Larkin Gallery in Provincetown, MA. Jamie also recently participated and displayed her work at the annual Paint off event at Dryden Gallery to help benefit the Providence Rotary Club.
Hollis Machala
Hollis is an emerging artist in New England. She is an Artist Member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. Her works are featured on her online store and she participates in annual art shows. Hollis offers a vibrant view; using the medium of watercolor to vividly depict still life, landscapes, macro subjects (close ups) and architecture; using her graphic & interior design knowledge and travels, as a guide to style and composition. Hollis received her bachelor’s degree in interior design from Mount Ida College in 2006. She began painting with watercolor after working and mentoring with Frank M. Costantino at his architectural illustration and fine art firm from 2007 to 2010. Hollis has since found and continues to craft her unique expressions with watercolor.
Sienna Myoung Su Ko
Sienna was born in South Korea. She moved to the United States when she was a sophomore in High School. She is currently a senior in RISD. Her cultural background in Korea influences her concern for conflict and balance. She is interested in the moment when two contrasting components coexist and balance each other, components such as perfection and imperfection, natural and manmade, graphic and painterly, present and absent, intentional and unintentional.
Balance is an important theme in her work. Having an East Asian background, she is inspired by the philosophy of Eastern metaphysics: Yin and Yang, a system of thought that reflects the ancient view that the Universe is constantly changing, flowing, transforming and part of an ongoing process, rather than a linear set of static shapes and forms. According to Yin-Yang Philosophy, in nature, there exists an equal polar dichotomy, which co-exists to form everything within nature. In order for one to exist, there must also exist an opposite: Light and dark, right and wrong, love and hate, microcosm and macrocosm, finality and eternity, etc.
Her uses of materials reflect her point of view about balance. In her paintings, she uses a combination of mixed media: fabric, paper, oil, acrylic, spray paints, gesso and varnish. Texture, surface treatments and color are also very important aspects of her work. She uses a delicate and subtle color palette, and plays with gloss varnish and interference paints. With these materials, she creates luminosity. Her paintings transform, depending on the amount of light they obtain. They shift depending on the viewer’s viewpoint: their height, angle or distance from the painting and even their body movement.
She wants the viewers to see her work not only in their eyes, but also in their heart, and soul.
Kyle Stockford
Kyle is a Boston based Fine Art 2D painting major at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He has experience showing his art in galleries in Massachusetts. He is excited for the opportunity to show a few pieces at Sprout in Providence. As a painter he currently works on building form through values, light and color. Showing his art with Sprout allows him to broaden his horizons in terms of networking and feedback.
